ARIEL ATOM
The Ariel Motor Company Ltd is a performance motor vehicle manufacturing company based in Crewkerne, Somerset. Founded in 1991 by Simon Saunders as Solocrest Ltd, the name was changed in 1999 to Ariel Motor Company Ltd. The company manufactures the Ariel Atom, an extremely light but massive performance car. Powered by a Honda Civic Type R engine and gearbox, the Atom is the world’s first road-going ‘exoskeletal car’. It has limited body work or roof, but is entirely built around the tube chassis. As a small company, they’re incredibly proud of how focused they can be whilst manufacturing the cars. With no production lines or robots, they’re happy to have “good old fashioned, British skill and handbuilt craftsmanship”. “Serious Fun” is how they describe their cars…and we completely agree!
